Community Starter Kit
Posted: 05 May 06 10:53 AM

Does anyone know if there is a genuine 2.0 Framework version of the Community Starter Kit available? The only one I found is a upgraded 1.0 version that can be developed in VS 2005... My organization is very interested in finding a 2.0 version of the Community Starter Kit. An MSI installer with a database schema would be over the top!

Thanks!

Good question. I used to keep track of this project. I thought it was a great idea but it seams to have fizzled out. Like DotNetNuke did for Microsoft's Portal Starter Kit, GotCommunityNet was aimed at doing for Community Started Kit. Now it seams GotCommunityNet is OmniPortal (http://omniportal.net).

Good luck in finding what you are looking for but I believe Community Starter Kit is dead (althought the source code lives on).

Regards,
Matthew

I am noticing that the msi installer is becoming increasingly harder to find online, so I have to agree that the CSK is sortof beginning to fizzle out; however, my company is continuing to use this framework as the core for all our new projects. So the code is indeed living on.

I have been tasked with finding a 2.0 portal solution we might be able to use (I am partial to DNN - I've been using DNN since 2.0.1 so its familiar), and another team member has been charged with upgrading the existing CSK to the 2.0 framework, but its a slow process, and we can only work on that in between projects, so who knows if/when we will ever use it...

I guess the reality is that my company is going to be using the 1.1 framework for the forseable future. That will only change when we have a customer requirement for a 2.0 compliant solution. Sometimes thats the way it is, customers drive the technology...
